Why is the Grinch After my Business?
One of the scariest things that could happen to a business is to have the bottom line stop short. So who is the Grinch and how do you stop him? For a lot of businesses, the Grinch is closer than you think. It may be an executive, head of marketing, or even the business owner that is causing you to operate a Grinch business.
During a time of the year when energy levels are high for consumers, many businesses tend to shut down. There is a reluctance to start something new or have any expenses. The end of the quarter is one of the prime opportunitiesĀ for businesses to make an impression with seasonal marketing decisions during the entire year.
Unfortunately I see a lot of businesses operating like a parent trying to save for Christmas presents. Your business should not have the same behavior as consumers. Phrases like “It is not a good time right now” and “I just don’t have the budget for marketing during the holidays” are excuses that are holding you back.
Is your business a Grinch business?
Consumers are more active now than at any time of the year. During this time consumers are shopping, sharing photos, emailing holiday plans, and traveling all over the country. Where are these activities taking place? They are all happening millions of times a day on mobile devices.
Businesses should embrace this time of the year. There should not be decisions to freeze all spending and “just wait to do something next year.”
Maybe you are a retail business trying to drive in more revenue, or you are a service business that is taking this opportunity for branding? Either way, you are missing a huge opportunity if you are not in the digital space. Your website along with any and all social media platforms need to be a part of your overall marketing plan.
Embrace the Opportunity.
So maybe you are having a special holiday promotion, or you are raising funds in an Ugly Christmas Suit. Make the decision to get your business out there. Your consumers are out there feasting on the smorgasbord of ads, commercials, videos, promotions, events and specials. Where are you?
Don’t be left in a snow drift next year. Be brave. Be bold. Make a decision to market your business. Avoid the Grinch business practice and you might just see your business grow three sizes next holiday season.
