You Need to Know Your Role!
You need to know your role in the business world. It is a vital component in the ability for a small business to survive. It can also reduce confusion and greatly improve efficiency in a corporate setting.
Yes, I know that you are probably rolling your eyes at this article right now, but please bear with me. Knowing your role is much more than your job description. This is only if you are looking to strive to be better in your current environment and looking to make a positive change in your personal status quo.
This is not a critique or judgment for those of you that stick to the letter of the law. If that is the role that you choose for yourself, then you will fill a position with many businesses. You may show up on time. Daily you may perform your job duties in a satisfactory manner. There will be times that you may provide acceptable customer service. You may have a decent relationship with your co-workers. Your time at work may go relatively unnoticed by your boss or supervisor. You may stay in that position for a long career. If that is the role that you choose, then I hope that you are satisfied and happy in your role.
Is There an Alternative Role?
The alternative is to strive to go above and beyond the job description that you are handed when you were hired. For the position in your company may be what you make of it. You may choose to show up early from time to time, and learn more about your company. There may be times where you truly excel in customer service to give them an experience that they will remember and value long after they leave your business. Once a month you may choose to take on a special task in an attempt to improve the company in some way. Your supervisor will have no other choice but to take notice of your dedication. You may choose to become a leader and a mentor to your co-workers.
So you may choose to work like a true kingpin on the lanes. Showing up every day attempting to roll strikes for you and your company. Or you may choose to be content with a gutter ball every once in while. The role that you choose is ultimately up to you, so choose your lane wisely!
