Pinterest Is The New Google

Move aside Google. It looks like Pinterest is moving in on your territory.

The digital age has brought on a lot of change of how we do things, whether it’s communicating with one another or how we market ourselves and our businesses. It’s all done digitally. How we go about searching for solutions and ideas is no different. All our answers are literally at our fingertips. Who even uses a dictionary or an encyclopedia nowadays? It’s just not acceptable to have to wait for an answer. We need to know everything and now!

When search engines were first introduced it was a big deal, but then social media came along and changed everything. Information became even more accessible. Even I found myself no longer using Google when I wanted to search for something. Social media is simply just faster, especially Pinterest.

Pinterest is more than just re-pinning a project you like or a recipe that sounds good. It has become a visual research and targeted advertising tool. We learn better through visuals and connect with images faster than we do reading through text to find what we need. Think about it, are you more likely to click on a link through a visual search or a text search? If the image is appealing to you depending on your search, you will click on the image over the text. Recently, Pinterest just introduced guided search enabling users to actively search and discover content. The search bar has become even more prominent and accessible on the website as well. Pinterest recognizes the evolution of how people are searching and are keeping up with those changes accordingly.

From a business stand point, knowing all of this should make you think about how your company should be optimizing your visual content. The way you do your SEO is no longer just for Google, it should be for Pinterest too. As of last year, more than 70 million people used Pinterest and it continues to grow as more people sign up here in the U.S. and overseas. Whether your company is on Pinterest or not, it may be time to start analyzing how you can benefit from your visual content.
